Teacher Appreciation Week - Day 4

As you can see, I'm not very good at surprises. I think this adorable recycled gift will make up for it.  I used the same paper as I did for the scissors and they make quite a pair. All you need for this project is some scrapbook paper, glue or double stick tape, and an aluminum can. I couldn't remember if it was better to use the  ones you need to use a can opener with  or the  pull-tab cans . Um, don't use these. Ever.  My hands are sliced up and sore. Instead, use the can that you have to use a can opener to remove the top.  It creates a nice clean, smooth edge. Much safer. Remove the label and wash thoroughly. Be sure to dry it completely before placing the scrapbook paper on the can. If you use a razor blade to remove the label, you can use the label to measure the paper. Don't forget to include some additional width to overlap the pieces on the can for a nice clean finish. Once you have the paper cut out, be sure to lay it on the ca...

Teacher Appreciation Week - Day 3

I know I gave away what craft was coming today, but what you didn't know is that K2 was going to be the crafter of these flower pens. Yep, this one is super easy for the kiddos. You'll want to supervise the glue gun use and be sure you have the low-temp gun. If you have lots of teachers, this is a perfect gift because you can make several of them in a short amount of time and it's pretty inexpensive. There are a gazillion kinds of silk flowers in every color and size imaginable. We selected some smaller flowers so they would be easier to write with. We also included leaves on ours, but that's totally optional. You don't need to get expensive pens either - you're just going to be covering them up anyway. You can get everything you need at your local Wal-Mart, too, so no worries if you don't have a craft store nearby. Floral Tape is about 99 cents a roll and you won't use all of it on this project alone. I used my jewelry pliers because they have a wi...

New Year, New Me

Last year I decided I wanted to get myself healthy and I think I did pretty good.  I started running (ok, jogging...whatever).  I participated in several 5K events and I am continuing on into 2012.  I even got my whole family to start running with me. Disney Halloween 5k October 2011 We are eating better and I've even improved my dental flossing! But even with all of that, I still have issues with my weight and stress, mostly because of my thyroid disorder.  I may not be able to control my thyroid yet, but I have decide to attack something I can control.   A house should be a home and everyone should feel comfortable and relaxed when coming home after a long day at work.  Not me!  Over the years my house has become a dumping ground, thanks to my 2 kids and husband (and me).  It drives me crazy and makes me really unhappy and well, StReSsEd!!! My New Year's resolution this year is to DeCrap MiHouse.  That's right.  I'm publicl...
