Headband Holder

Hair accessories are taking over my girls' bathroom. Now K1 has taken a particular interest in headbands, so I needed to come up with something to wrangle this mess in. I had come across several ways to organize headbands on Pinterest, but I finally went with the good ole oatmeal container because it doubles as storage for other accessories inside. Oh ok, plus it's free and I love to upcycle. 1. I took the label off the outside and glued some batting around the container. 2. After the glue dried, I cut off the excess batting. Time to grab that leftover fabric from a dress I made K2 years ago. 3.  I measured around the container as well as the height and added 1 inch to both height and width to allow for tucking the fabric under. Just because I'm not sewing it, doesn't mean I don't want a nice finished edge! 4. This particular container has a plastic rim that I decided to use to tuck the fabric under with a butter knife. You could easily...

200 Facebook Fan Celebration

As promised, I have a giveaway to celebrate having 200 fans on Facebook. K1 has been getting pretty crafty here lately and she has agreed to share the giveaway prize, but also instructions if you would like to make your own beautiful pendant necklace. Thanks, kiddo! These little glass pendants can be purchased at your local craft store. You can choose from different shapes as well. Extra bonus - you get to use your favorite nail polish color, too!    Apply a thin coat of base polish to a clean pendant.  Let dry completely.   Paint your favorite color of nail polish to the back, flat side of the pendant.   You may need more than one coat, so be sure to let each coat dry completely before applying the next. Finish with a clear top coat to protect the polish and keep the colored polish from contacting your skin. Look at all the pretty colors! Even easier, K1 has donated one just for you! Entering to win is easy - just use the raf...

Quilting - Day One

I like learning new crafts, but as a perfectionist, the initial process is very nerve wrecking for me. I have to constantly remind myself that it's ok for it to not be perfect - at least for the first time, ha! Onto getting this project started. You can check out my initial post about this project here . Since I work full-time, I can only do a little at a time. Quilting actually is pretty perfect for this. It's all just piece work. I started by laying out my 2 inch wide strips and then pinning two together at a time, matching up the long edges and the right sides facing each other.  Time to sew together after pairing all the strips up. This went rather quickly since it's just a straight stitch. See how easy that is? If only sewing clothes were this easy. Then I repeated with the rest of the paired strips. After sewing all the pairs, it was time to pin together the strips again making it into one large strip of the four 2 inch strips. Another easy ...

Teacher Appreciation Week - Day 1

In honor of Teacher Appreciation week, which is fast approaching, I'm going to detour from my normal posting schedule. Instead, I'll be sharing with you the projects I am working on for my kids' schools. Somewhere in there I'm also supposed to come up with a Wedding Cake for a Romeo and Juliet Party, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. First up - Scissors! What  teacher doesn't need scissors? I know mine disappear all the time. With this little project, your teacher will have their own personalized set of shears to admire. This is a super easy and inexpensive gift that is also very useful.  All you need is some scissors, Mod Podge, and some scrapbook paper. Cut out the paper to match the blade. Apply a layer of Mod Podge. Place the paper on top of the paste. Apply another layer of Mod Podge on top of the paper. Let dry and then repeat on other side. That's it. After letting it dry, I started thinking about covering the enti...
