Favorite Little Princess

Happy Friday!  The local weather has predicted that we will be having a cold weekend, with a slight possibilty of snow. I know it's winter, but I live in Florida. This is BIG news. I'm sure it won't happen, but I'm ready to spend my weekend indoors as much as possible. Cooler weather means that I have the opportunity to catch up on projects that were left unfinished. Hard to believe that it was way back in October that I started this baby afghan. I have all the squares done and most of them sewn together. I have one row left and then will just need to put a pretty edging around it. I hope to show you the final project next week.  I also have plans to sew up some napkins this weekend. Isn't this pretty fabric? I think this would make a great tutorial. Maybe I can get that up next week, too. Happy I Love Yarn Day! I thought to celebrate I would share with you what yarn project I am working on.  Let me start off by saying to I do love this yarn. Bernat Softee Baby is easy to work with and doesn't tangle easily. It's my favorite baby weight yarn. Usually, I have a specific project with a designated gift recipient. Not this time. I saw an article with a photo of a granny square afghan and fell in love with it. With this yarn on hand, I thought it would make a perfect baby blanket and it's nice to have a stash of baby afghans for last minute gifts. I couldn't find a pattern for the photo that I saw, so I just improvised and made my own. These make up quickly (about 15 minutes each) and I have worked up several to and from work. My hubby and I carpool many days and this is the perfect time for me to bust out some squares. Gauge is not important for this, but I am using a G hook. Twinkle Little Star Blanket The promised baby afghan is finally complete and not a moment too soon. The baby shower is tomorrow! This is a Bernat pattern, which can be found here . It's made with Bernat Baby Coordinates, which is a soft, sport weight yarn.  I'm a big fan of Bernat.  They have quality yarn and their website has tons of free patterns.  I really like how you can search by pattern or by yarn and they will match up projects for you. Plus, I rarely have a problem with their yarns tangling right out of the skein. Although this color combination is quite cute, it can really be completed with a variety of colors.  I happened to have a stash of purple shades and thought it would work out well.  What I really like about patterns like this, is that you can work on it a little at a time and it travels really well since it you complete each block individually.  It's also a good project for beginners because you don't get overwhelm...

Whew...now that was an interesting project.  I ended up using six full skeins of the solid color and one of the multi color.  I chose not to do the ruffle edging since this is to be for a baby boy and I didn't want it to appear too girly.  I just did a simple, plain edging and left it at that.     I liked how the blanket turned out and it's large enough that it will still be useful as he grows.
